The OddShrimp’s Guide to the Animal Kingdom – Introduction

After a period of inactivity i feel it’s about time for a new project. Given my interest in all animals large and small, I have decided to go a little bit more systematic. It is with some pride that I hereby present The OddShrimp’s Guide to the Animal Kingdom.

In this series I will attempt to give a broad overview of the animal kingdom by treating one or more subgroups per episode, with lots of pictures & short descriptions. The first two episodes will concern relatively simple animals: the sponges and the jellies (and kin). After this I use a somewhat simplified classification system to subdivide the bulk of the animal kingdom into the Spiralians (flatworms, snails, squid, etc), Ecdysozoans (roundworms, insects, crabs, etc), and Deuterostomes (starfish, fishes, birds, etc). Each of these groups will be smeared out over a number of episodes.

A Spiralian
An Ecdysozoan
A Deuterostome

Coming soon: Episode 1: the sponges.
